  • Sickness and attendance

    Mon 06 Sep 2021 S.Jones
    Hi Everyone,

We have had a few enquiries today as to what to do about attending school if your child is ill. We would like to clarify the following points that are included in our regular policy.

    1) If your child has any diarrhea or vomiting they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last bout.

    2) If your child is unwell enough to need calpol you should keep them at home. Please do not dose them up to get through school!

As an addition for preventing the spread of Covid 19 we are following the D of E advice and are asking parents to keep children off school if they have a high temperature (37.8 or above) as you normally would or a new cough. Our additional protection is that your child should remain off school until they have returned to a normal temperature for 48 hours.

We are enclosing the following advice that has been copied from the D of E documentation regarding Covid in an early years setting

What to do if a child is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)

If anyone in your setting develops a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia), they must be sent home and be advised to follow the guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. This sets out that they must arrange to have a PCR test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19)

As mentioned the guidance states that you should arrange to have a PCR test for Covid if your child has a high temperature, a continuous cough or a change in their sense of taste or smell. We realise that this is a bit of extra protection but we are asking that parents follow this advice before returning their child to school. Anyone who displays symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) can and should get a test. Tests can be booked online through the NHS website, or ordered by telephone via NHS 119 for those without access to internet.

For further clarification I enclose the following link to the DfE Stay at Home guidance:-

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

Thank you to everyone for following both our policy and the DfE guidance. Once your test has been returned please give us a call and we can discuss your child's return to school.

    Children's Mentor

We , at Westborough, are in the process of training up a Children's Mentor. This job role will fit in well with our emphasis on social and emotional wellbeing and the importance that we place on listening to the voice of the child. The key role of the Mentor will be:-

    • To work with staff, external professionals, parents and carers plus the child to identify and understand the internal barriers to learning that he or she has.
    • To help the child overcome their barriers and make progress in order to prepare them for future life.
    • To be focused on the child.
    • To coach and mentor the child to achieve to their best potential.
    • To recognise when to get professionals involved.
    • To act as an advocate for the child.
    • To plan and deliver individual and group interventions.

We will let you know when our mentor is fully qualified.
